Yes! Due to this flooring being multi-layered that consists of a real timber veneer, it is real timber flooring without the price tag of solid timber.
No, it is not completely waterproof however, due to its layers, it works better with water than solid hardwood timber.
Engineered timber is made from a solid hardwood veneer on top of a multiply core or base. These boards are ideal in modern construction as they can be both glued directly to the substrate or floated on top of acoustic underlay and be walked on the same day.
In terms of the look, feel and sound of engineered timber underfoot, when glued directly to the subfloor there is little to no difference compared to solid timber flooring.
Being a natural product, timber flooring typically sits at a higher price point than other flooring alternatives, although, engineered timber is significantly more affordable than solid timber flooring. Due to its multi-layered construction, engineered timber uses less timber per board, while maintaining the same look and feel as solid timber. This is better for the environment, better for the boards and better for your wallet.
You can expect to pay roughly between $100 to $170 per meter squared of professionally installed engineered timber flooring.
It’s important to remember that whether you glue down or float your floors will also affect this price, with floating typically being the more affordable option. However, we always recommend gluing down your timber floors for the best result.
Engineered Timber is designed to be tougher than solid timber flooring, however you should consider avoiding a finish with too much shine, instead choosing a board with a matte or wire-brushed finish. Clean your floors regularly and keep your pet’s nails trimmed for the best results.
